Pre-Production

Scriptwriter - The scriptwriter is sectored in the Development/pre-production area of the production of the film. They are also sectored in the pre-production because of its title, the script is the beginning of the film, it is known as the idea. The script is basically the blueprint of the film.

The scriptwriter's job is to create an idea of a film. The film could be of various genres including Action, Horror, Drama, Comedy, sic-fi and Fantasy.

The creative side of scriptwritting is being able to go in depth with creating characters, crafting dialogue and inventing plots.

The positives and negatives of the job role can be:

Positives:

• Having an important role in the development of the film.
• Can become popular in the film industry because of a certain style you have (your signature style). This would open new doors for more opportunities.
• Being able to work with the Producer and Director of the film.
• Having the role to produce the skeleton of the film (the idea of the film).
• Starting from the beginning of the project. 

Negatives:

• Could struggle to produce a script.
• Deadlines (Can feel rushed).
• Could be very difficult to find a Producer to take the script further.

Producer - The Producer is the main role of the stages of the film, from the beginning to end. The Producer is the main role of the films production (Basically the Manger). The Producer creates a crew and lists and hires the job roles e.g. Director/Writer/Cast Manager.

The Producer would also manage the financial side of the film, finding the distributor(s).

The timeline for the producer in the film production stages, include all stages because of their title. The producer participates in all stages; Pre-Production/Production/Post/ Production. They participate in all stages because they are the lead role in the project from start to finish.

Director

The Director is one of the main important roles in a film production/project. The Director is the core of the film as-well as the lead Actors, Producer and Scriptwriter. The Director is part of the core of the film because they're the vision of the film, Their job is to portrait the story in a visual way.

The Director participates in all stages including: Pre-Production/Production/Post Production. They participate in all stages because of their title role, their role within the project is one of the key elements of the project which is the creative side of the film, this is why they occur in all stages.

Costume Designer(s) - The Costume Designer(s) is part of the Pre-Production and the Production stage of the film. Their role is to produce certain costumes that they had created for the actor/actresse's characters of the film. The Costume Designer(s) work along side the Make up Artist(s) because of the department that they both participate in. The Costume Designer(s) also work with the Director because of the visual side of the film.

There can be various amount of negatives within this job role including, the salary that would be low for the starting of this career. The job role can lead to night shifts and also weekends. Location Manager - The Location Manager is sectored in the Pre-production and Production stage of the making of the film. The Location manager locates the locations of ideas for filming in that certain area, but also to visit the area and make note of places that they could film and create a RCCE for planning to film there.

Positives:

•  A Location Manager starts at the very beginning of the Production of the film.

Negatives:

• Job role ends at the end of Production and there fore their job is no longer needed how ever the start of Post Production for the film. You would need to search for another job on another film set.

Editor - The Film Editor's job role is to assemble the film footage into a finished product suitable for viewing. The Film Editor is involved in the Post Production sector which is the final stage of the films development. The Film Editor works closely with the Director and Producer of the film, to make the required end result.

• A Good knowledge of the job role and use of equipment.
• Standard quality with techniques of editing.
• Suitable Communication skills.
• Creative Ideas.

• Instructed understanding.

There can be various negatives of the job role that can be, The career can be time consuming through projects. The line of career could be stressful. Within this job role there are expectations of meeting deadlines.

Film Industry

The film industry is divided into four separate sectors including: Development//Production//Distribution//Exhibition. 

The Development stage is the start of the films production, which is the Development of the script which is the skeleton of the film. The other part of the development stage is the planning for the production stage and finding an investor and Distributor.

Production stage is basically the filming of the project. This stage includes the majority of job roles involved in the film project. The production is the practical side of the project.

Distributing is occurred once the film is still in post production. The distributing of the film is practically the marketing stage of the film. This involves Advertising/Reviewing/Previewing. 

The advertising includes trailers (teaser/trailer/official trailer) and posters. 

The reviewing side of the distributing involves showings for critics so the film could be reviewed and rated by given star ratings and prospective on the films qualities. Previews also occur in the marketing of the film to avoid loosing out in the first weeks of release. The reason for previews is to gain the advantage of 'word of mouth'.

The exhibition is the final stage of the films production, this includes the celebration of the films release. It involves the premiere of the film, this is where the lead roles of the film including the Producer, Director and the lead actor/actress will participate in.

Script Writer

Script Writer

The Script Writer works in the Development sage of the production sage of the film. The Development sage is the very beginning of the film production, this is called the Ideas stage.

The Script writer's job is to create the idea of the film and produce a script for the certain film. 

The Script writer works closely with the producer of the film. Why it is important that the writer works closely with the producer is because they need to have a good understanding and trust to make the best that it can be. The script writer works closely with the producer because they mite purchase the script.

The Producer mite also hire a Script writer to produce a script and mite even bring them into the next sage of production to help out and work closely with the Director and Script Editor.

The Script writer could also work closely with the Director. This can occur if the Producer feels like the Script Writer should be involved on set.

Film Industry Job Roles: Grip (Department)

The Grip job role in the film industry is sectioned in different areas including co-operating with the Camera Operator and The Director of Photography. The main responsibility for Grips is managing all the equipment and taking care of the equipment.

Co-operating with the Camera Operator
The role and responsibility for the Grip co-operating with the Camera Operator, is to work and ensure that the dolly tracks are balanced and working properly.

The Grip role with working with the Camera Operator is important not only because of the suitable placement of the dolly but because of the knowledge that the Grip needs to have with the cameras. The Grip needs to have a good understanding of the camera and can work well with the Camera Operator, so that they can produce a good quality shot.

Co-operating with the Director of Photography
The Grip role with working with the Director of Photography needs to have a good understanding on the lighting on set. The Grip needs to have a knowledge of the equipment used in lighting on set.

Advantages and Disadvantages

The one disadvantage of this job is that it is a different location aboard (spain). This means that you would need to leave home, could make some personal problems or situations. One other problem with aboard could be the different language. One other disadvantage you could have with this job could be the transport, you need to pervade your own transport. A disadvantage could also be within the team that you are working with, you might not get along.

The advantage of working aboard would be the experience, and could also be the weather. You can also get a good review which could lead to more opportunities.
